Big companies are making big moves towards the metaverse and it isn’t surprising if they make large changes to their company as well such as changing their name to be more crypto-friendly among other things. One interesting piece of news is about the multinational corporation Puma as its making big plays to cement a foothold in the metaverse.

Puma Has Registered an ENS domain and Changed its Twitter Handle to Puma. eth.

Puma has joined Nike and Adidas in the metaverse by registering the ENS domain name for use on their various online properties. After purchasing a decentralized URL and revealing their nonfungible token (NFT), Puma has joined a growing list of major brands that have done so by changing their Twitter handle to @Puma.eth. The Ethereum Name Service, or ENS, registered the domain name for the German sportswear brand.

Puma changes its Twitter Handle

Anheuser-Busch InBev subsidiary Budweiser purchased Beer. eth for 30 ETH through ENS on OpenSea last year, making it one of the most well-known.ETH domain names. The former director of operations at ENS was so ecstatic when White Castle registered whitecastleofficial. eth, he took to Twitter to express his delight.

According to an ENS Medium post, all ETH names are NFTs that can be “easily plugged-in to the ever-expanding NFT ecosystem. You can receive any cryptocurrency or blockchain asset with an ENS name, and you can point to a decentralized website and store profile information like an avatar, email address or Twitter handle.

NFT-related moves by Puma have recently included the ENS name. NFT collections based on cats, such as Cool Cats NFT, Lazy Lions, Gutter Cat Gang, and CatBlox, have been purchased by Puma, according to the company’s OpenSea page.

At the time of this writing, Puma was ranked 13th on the.eth Leaderboard, a list of the most popular Twitter accounts that have ETH names. For a start, Paris Hilton’s parishilton.eth is the most popular domain name in Thailand, while former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal’s “shaq.eth” is in second place.

Along with Nike and Adidas, Puma is a major global sportswear brand that has made a big splash in the Web3 sphere. It was Nike’s acquisition of RTFKT and Adidas Originals’ collaboration with Bored Ape Yacht Club, PUNKS Comic, and Gmoney that led to the NFT collaboration.

The Ethereum Name Service has 724,096 ENS names created at the time of writing, according to Dune Analytics, with the highest number of monthly registrations occurring in the last few months. Over 2 million domains are registered by ENS rival Unstoppable Domains on their website and they recently launched a single-sign-on service for Ethereum and Polygon called Login.

Decentralized URLs are becoming increasingly popular among Web 3 users as more and more DApps, wallets, exchanges, and marketplaces support NFT usernames.

Conclusion

With all of the hype surrounding the metaverse, it becomes almost impossible for small companies to avoid. Puma along with Nike and Adidas have decided to make their move towards the metaverse shown by Puma’s willingness to change their Twitter handle to something supportive of the metaverse.
