According to Sasha Plotvinov, founder of Open Builders, the viral clicker game Notcoin successfully integrates Telegram users into the world of crypto.

Notcoin achieved record-breaking success in January with 20 million sign-ups within 26 days of its release, showcasing its potential to onboard millions of users into cryptocurrency through gaming, surpassing the user base of popular blockchain game Axie Infinity.

Plotvinov discussed the genesis of the game in a CoinNerd interview at the Token2049 event, revealing its journey to 30 million users by March. Originally aimed at introducing crypto to Telegram users, he elaborated:

It just solved the issue. Or maybe, the task that we all had on how to bring users from Telegram to crypto. So basically, that was the original goal.

The executive elucidated that his team extensively analyzed Telegram’s extensive user base and the TON blockchain, noting its minimal activity despite possessing advanced technology.

After thorough deliberation, the team opted for a strategy focused on streamlining the onboarding process. Plotvinov elaborated:

At some point you just, you know, come to the idea. All right. So we just need to remove all the roadblocks for the beginning. Then, we need to give something to users so they have the motivation to go for all this Web3.

The co-creator of Notcoin highlighted its evolution into a highly social experience, featuring interactions, competitions, leaderboards, and squads. He emphasized the significance of such elements in gaming and noted the ease of onboarding users within Telegram.

Plotvinov described how the game transformed into a social phenomenon, with 53,000 communities vying for top positions in their respective leagues.

The executive clarified that the team operated without a marketing budget, emphasizing that all growth occurred organically.
