Solana Saga Sparks $5K EBay Craze: Bonk Frenzy Triggers Epic Sell-out!

By

Following sluggish sales for months, the Solana Saga phone is currently marked as “SOLD OUT” on its official website, coinciding with a surge in demand due to the free Bonk memecoin airdrop frenzy.

Amid a rush to acquire a free memecoin airdrop, a Solana Saga phone reportedly fetched up to $5,000 on eBay—eight times its retail price—leading to the device’s first sellout on the official website.

A recent eBay listing on December 16 showcased two sealed Solana Saga phones sold for $5,000 each (or “best offer”), while another device went for $3,316 (or “best offer”).

Solana Saga phones were reportedly resold for up to $5,000 on eBay, as per data from the platform.

Over the weekend, 20 more devices sold for over $2,000 each, marking a significant markup of over $1,400 from the original $599 price tag on the Solana Mobile website.

Since its launch on May 8, each new Saga phone included a complimentary 30 million Bonk (BONK) token airdrop. Recent trader observations revealed a surge in Bonk’s value, surpassing the phone’s worth, leading to the device being marked as “SOLD OUT” as of December 16.

Those purchasing these resold Saga phones are seemingly banking on the memecoin’s potential to further increase in value. Over the past month, Bonk experienced an almost 800% surge, attracting attention from both memecoin enthusiasts and speculative traders.

In the past month, Bonk’s price has skyrocketed by almost 800%, according to TradingView data.

But in order for traders to benefit from the hefty $5,000 price, the value of Bonk would have to surge an additional 620% from where it stands now. This surge would push Bonk’s value to a whopping $8.68 billion market cap, bringing it to a comparable level with Tron TRX trading at $0.1001 or Polkadot DOT trading at $6.67.

However, it appears that buyers of the phone might not be banking solely on Bonk’s price, as numerous Solana-based projects have recently unveiled airdrops and financial rewards for device owners.

On December 17, the pseudonymous founder of the DeFi protocol, Solend, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the team is planning an airdrop specifically for Saga phone holders.

Moreover, another memecoin initiative named Samoyed Coin (SAMO) revealed plans for an upcoming airdrop exclusively for Saga holders, promising additional details in the near future.

On November 15, decentralized storage provider GenesysGo had earlier announced the opportunity for users to mine its native Shadow (SHDW) token using an application on the Saga phone.
